The Suds Hot Rod Club was formed in September of 2004 by a group of diverse people who shared a common love for classic cars and The Suds Cruise-in in Greenwood, IN. The Club pledged itself to support The Suds Drive-in and the cruise-in that surrounds it every Saturday in the summer as most of the members hold both dear to their hearts. The club has approximately 50 members. We do not restrict our members to any certain make of car or truck, only that it be classic by age. Most of our members are from Greenwood and surrounding south side areas. The club officers are Ed Patterson – President, Larry Vanlandingham – Vice President, Debby VanLandingham – Secretary, Pam Cliburn – Treasurer, and Joe Godfrey – Sgt. At Arms. Our club is most noted for its role in securing The Suds as a stop in Car Craft Magazine’s “Crusin’ USA Tour” in 2005. Out of thousands of entries, we were chosen to be one of the five stops and received a feature story in the October 2005 issue. We were also the Indianapolis host club for the “Hot Rod Power Tour” in 2005. The purpose of our club is to continue providing a family friendly atmosphere to enjoy and share our passion for classic cars. This is the reason our club has joined the ranks of the Auto Club Council of Indiana. We feel that the ACCI is an organization that can help us reach a portion of that goal by watching over our rights as classic car collectors. Since 2006 we have hosted the Saturday night Suds cruise-in each summer by providing cold drinks, snacks, restroom facilities, and trash service to the event. This event has been going on for 30 years and we intend to insure that it continues for many more. Our club supports several charities each year including the Johnson County Shop with a Cop program, Johnson County Good Cheer Fund, Johnson County Humane Society, and the USO program. We also provide assistance to any friend and family of club members in need.
